Up to 40 firefighters tackled a fierce blaze at a derelict West Midlands factory today.

A third of the four-storey building, on New John Street West and Summer Lane in Hockley, Birmingham, was damaged in the fire. At its height eight crews were sent to the premises at 4.43am.

Five streets were closed this morning including New John Street West, Hospital Street and Summer Lane.

The cause of the blaze is not yet known and investigations are ongoing.
