100 places up for grabs at Wolverhampton University

A total of 100 university places were back up for grabs in Wolverhampton today – days after the city’s university declared itself full.

Record numbers of students flooded the city university’s clearing hotlines in a scramble for places, filling all its 800 spots in just two days.

But it was today revealed that 100 places had been released back into the system in engineering, computing, art and design, dance, drama and music.

Prospective students who were offered places through clearing had three days to confirm their application.

Where that failed to happen, the place was re-released.

Academic registrar Paul Travill said anyone interested should visit website www.wlv.ac.uk/clearing  or call the clearing hotline on 0800 953 3222.

Staff have been handling queries since A-level results day last Thursday, fielding more than 25,000 calls.

The university closed its clearing process after just two days. Last year, it lasted two weeks.

The University of Worcester today said it had a few places left, while Staffordshire University said the number of places left was very limited.

Birmingham University, along with several other top institutions, ruled itself out of clearing before A-level results were released.

The pressure on university places meant even students with straight A*s  at A-level faced uncertainty over whether they would get to the institution of their choice.
