CCTV hope after church burglary

Raiders have stolen sacred treasures from a landmark church in the Black Country, police have revealed.

Holy Trinity Church, Amblecote, Stourbridge today released CCTV pictures of people who they hope will help in the search for the stolen items.

A brass crucifix, a three-foot high cross and a civic chain were taken from the church in Vicarage Road.

The items said to be worth “a substantial” amount of money were taken while the church was open to the public on a Sunday afternoon.

Churchwardens today released CCTV images seen in the church around the time of theft in the hope of finding witnesses to the crime.

They are anxious to speak to anyone who can help recover the valuable items taken.

The engraved glass chain of office, celebrating the area’s glassmaking heritage, was presented to the priest by the outgoing chairman of the former Amblecote Urban District Council when it was dissolved in 1966.

It was kept inside a cabinet, which the thieves prised off the wall and dumped outside the church.

Two people, a man and woman, were seen near the church at the time of the thefts.

Church officials would like to hear from anyone who saw the pair.
