Lorries are being sent the wrong way down a one-way street in the Black Country by satellite navigation systems, putting people’s lives at risk, it was claimed today.

Residents say drivers travelling along Brockmoor High Street are being led down a section of the road which was made one-way about six months ago.

The large vehicles then have to reverse out, a manoeuvre which poses dangers for pedestrians and cyclists.

Part of the High Street from the traffic lights towards Pensnett Road is a no through road.

Ward Councillor Karen Jordan has raised the problem with officers at Dudley Council following complaints from people living nearby about lorries getting stuck.

“Their sat navs have not been updated which is leading them to be sent down the wrong way.”

She is calling for new markings to raise awareness of the road layout.

Dudley Council officers are considering installing extra signs to warn drivers of the change.

Councillor Angus Adams, cabinet member for transport, said: “We can see if we can make the signs clearer for people.”
