Let’s go 3,000 miles in a £200 car
Thursday 24th June 2010, 7:00PM BST.
A father and his sons will join a 3,000 mile charity car rally across Europe – in a £200 second hand car.
Rob Lindop, along with his sons Chris and Andy, hope to raise about £2,000 for the Beacon Centre for the Blind in Sedgley.
Rob, aged 56, of Woodsetton, Chris, 30, of Tipton and Andy, 34, of Brierley Hill, will start with about 100 other vehicles from the French city of Lille on July 15.
They bought a Citroen Xantia, before making about £700 of improvements to it in a bid to get it through the week-long ‘Barmy to Barcelona’ event.
The family has run dealership Amlin Cars, in Brettell Lane, Brierley Hill, for more than 50 years.
Chris told of how his mother-in-law, Helen Timmins, volunteers at the centre and suggested they should help raise money for it.
His grandfather, Ken Cartwright, who had lost an eye, used to go to centre day sessions before his death at 89 two years ago.
