City retailers and local style experts joined forces to help Wolverhampton make a bigger impression on the region’s fashion map.

They launched CityStyle the first beauty, style and fashion event that ran throughout Saturday and yesterday and was the first of its kind held in the city.

Over 20 different organisations contributed to the entertainment with fashions shows, make overs, hair demonstrations and a bridal show ran alongside information stands from the likes of Virgin Trains.

The £3,000 event was coordinated by Wolverhampton City Centre Company and sponsored by Network West Midlands along with the city’s two principal shopping centres, the Wulfrun Centre and the Mander Centre, which also hosted activities.

It had the backing of many of the city’s leading fashion and beauty retailers such as House of Fraser, Dorothy Perkins, Bhs, Marks & Spencer, Wallis, New Look, Peacocks and Primark.  Accessories were provided by Specsavers, Hinds Jewellers and Bags of Luggage.

Live events included catwalk shows, hair styling demonstrations courtesy of Francesco Group and Zaks Hairdressing and beauty treatments from City of Wolverhampton students, Boots and House of Fraser.

Wolverhampton City Centre company manager Kim Gilmour said: “It was a great success. The event was the first of its kind.

“If we can find sponsors we would love to do it again next year,” she said.

Wolverhampton City Centre Company is a partnership organisation established in 2001 that works across the city to attract new investment, shopping and leisure facilities.
