Bilston ‘sex assault’ seals off town centre

Police today sealed off part of Bilston town centre after an alleged sex assault of an 18-year-old woman.

The teenager claimed to have been attacked at around 1am.

Officers sealed off a portion of Wellington Road and Walsall Street around dawn today to allow officers to investigate.

West Midlands Police spokesman Steve Garey confirmed: “An 18-year-old woman has alleged that she was sexually assaulted in the early hours of this morning. The inquiry is at an early stage and an area was cordoned off to allow a scientific examination to take place in daylight.

“Officers are in the process of interviewing the alleged victim and are inquiries are continuing.”

Forensics officers were combing the street for clues.
