Kidderminster drivers facing delays

Motorists in Kidderminster will be hit by traffic delays this week while workers repair a sudden ‘dip’ which has appeared in one of the town’s busiest roads.

The small dip has appeared in the carriageway along Comberton Hill, near its junction with George Street.

Workers from Worcestershire County Council are working to find the cause and will carry out repairs as needed. Restrictions were put in place along the road following rush-hour this morning.

The road is not be closed completely but workers will be using stop and go signs to regulate traffic.

They are expected to remain in place for five days while the investigation and any remedial works are carried out.

Comberton Hill is one of the busiest roads in the area and delays are expected at peak times.

Worcestershire County Council spokesman Oliver Kinbrum said the restrictions were being put in place as a safety measure.

“A depression has appeared in the road and we have to find out the cause and fix it,” he said.

“At the moment the cause has not been found but it could be there is a void beneath the surface of the carriageway. If this is the case it will be repaired.”

Councillor Graham Ballinger, district council representative for Greenhill, said: “It will make things difficult for commuters and the shops along the route. However it is vital this work be done.”
