Parking limits will be introduced at nine Bilston town centre car parks under new plans unveiled today.

Currently motorists can park for as long as they want at the council-run sites. But six are set to be given a three-hour time limit while the other three will be made long stay. If approved, the arrangement could come in later this year.

Council chiefs say the move would increase the number of spaces available as people will not be able to park as long as they want.

The proposals will see the 536 spaces available at Pinfold Street, Batchcroft, Oxford Street, Hall Street, Pipes Meadow and Walsall Street designated as short stay with a three-hour time limit.

The 114 spaces at Mountford Lane, Bow Street and Short Street would be designated long stay for those who need to park for more than three hours.  Council bosses are now asking people what they think of the plans.

Councillor Paddy Bradley, Wolverhampton City Council’s cabinet member for regeneration and enterprise, said today: “We want to improve Bilston as a destination for shoppers and visitors.

People can discuss the proposals with officers at a consultation event in Church Street, Bilston, next Thursday betwee7.30am and 5pm.
