A teenager who attacked a bus driver in Wolverhampton with an iron bar has been locked up for more than two years.
Tyrone Haughton, aged 18, waited for the bus before rampaging through it, smashing windows in front of terrified passengers, Wolverhampton Crown Court heard .
He hit driver Witold Szuba on the shoulder with the bar and chased him around outside the stationary 526 Wolverhampton to Stow Lawn service.
Haughton boarded at the Wolverhampton city centre terminus, said Mr Edward Soulsby, prosecuting.
He said he was listening to his music oudly and there was a smell of weed being smoked. The driver stopped and reminded Haughton he could not smoke cannabis or play loud music.
Haughton got up and tried to butt the driver but the driver pushed him back into his seat. “Haughton then went to the back of the bus and took the safety hammer out of its holder.
The driver stopped but Haughton threw the hammer at him as he got off.
Haughton had an iron bar as the bus returned later and smashed windows, causing more than £700 damage.
Another driver helped restrain him as he chased Mr Szuba until police arrived.
Mr Jas Mann, defending, said he felt aggrieved after being wrongly accused of smoking.
Haughton of Shawbury Road, Park Village, was on police bail for breaking a man’s jaw in an earlier punch up at the time of the November 29 bus attack.
He, admitted assault, criminal damage and possession of an offensive weapon and was sent to a young offenders institution for 27 months.
