A new Metro stop is set to be built in Sandwell following talks between transport company Centro and residents in the area.

People in Hill Top shunned plans for a Metro stop when the line was built 11 years ago.

They submitted a petition opposing it. However following the popularity of the scheme, they have been campaigning to have one installed.

Councillor Ian Jones, who represents Tipton Green was at the meeting between Centro and residents. He said: "There was no stop in Hill Top because the people there didn't want one.

"However the line has proved such a success that they now want to take advantage of it."

Centro has agreed in principle to build the stop but the cash must be found in the Travel Plan to make it a reality.

The new stop would be in Bilport Lane.

According to Centro there would be a new crossing at that point on the line, with a new stop to be constructed nearby.

The plans were first mooted four years ago.
