Friday 23rd April 2010, 11:29AM BST.
A well-known former gun store owner from Wolverhampton, who was an ambassador for the sport of competitive shooting, has died.
Frank Spittle passed away just days before his 85th birthday at New Cross Hospital.
Mr Spittle worked hard to promote the sport of shooting and owned Frank Spittle Guns, in Bushbury Road, Fallings Park, for 40 years before retiring in 2001.
He developed his shooting skills in the Second World War and then joined the 8th Battalion of the Home Guard.
He achieved national and international success, including World Master Status in 1957.
His son Antony said: “Frank’s enthusiasm, drive and tenacity was legendary among his friends and colleagues and also with those who may be on the opposite side of the argument.
“As a family, we were continuously amazed at how he managed to keep his drive.
Mr Spittle leaves widow Brenda.
