The multi-million pound Walsall Waterfront development is finally taking shape with the first visual signs of the ambitious regeneration project.
The prominent metal framework provides the outline of where more than 150 homes are being built as part of the first phase of the canalside scheme.
Construction of the Walsall Waterfront South site, near Charles Street, is expected to be finished by the start of next year.
It includes 158 homes, office and retail space. Furthermore part of a historic foundry is being saved.
The facade of the former Homer Pressings Building, built in the late 1800s will remain overlooking the canalside as a tribute to manufacturing heritage in the heart of the town.
The first stage of the Waterfront scheme was secured at the end of last year after the announcement of an £8.5 million government cash boost towards the £15m phase.Cannock-based developer Jessup is transforming the site which is creating up to 200 jobs within the Black Country area.
Building work will begin on the second phase later this year with another 164 new waterfront homes – with residents expected to be start moving in by March 2012
.It was handed a £6.5million Government grant for the second phase. The Waterfront comprises three schemes – Waterfront North, Waterfront South and Waterfront Lex.
