Market scrapped amid rally fears

Wednesday 31st March 2010, 11:30AM BST.

Dudley Market will be cancelled on Saturday due to a rally by a far-right group in the town, it was announced today.

Traders will not set up their stalls due to the rally by the English Defence League.

Around 2,000 supporters are expected to join in the rally, between 2pm and 4pm.

Market manager Julie Jones said: “It is unfortunate as it is our biggest day of the week.”

Up to 40 roads could also be closed for the rally, which will see a heavy police presence.
