School bans play on BNP

Tuesday 30th March 2010, 11:30AM BST.

A Black Country school has banned the staging of a play about the BNP amid fears it could spark community tensions days before a planned rally by a far-right group in Dudley.

Moonfleece, a hard-hitting drama addressing racism and homophobia in Britain, had been due to be staged at the Dormston School, in Mill Bank, Sedgley, on Thursday.

The play has been pulled. A rally by the English Defence League will take place in Dudley on Saturday.

I doubt very much that this school play would spark any more tension than there already is around Dudley at this time! and of course the far right group doing their planned march wont have any resistance from any of the groups that have been shoving their little scandal sheets through doors in the Dudley area! It seems funny that these so called “peace loving people” are getting their message out loud and clear but the so called far right group have not been putting literature through doors stirring up things.
it should never have come to this anyway to start with the planning of the mosque was turned down and should have stayed that way!

Presumably, the play is not about glorifying the BNP, otherwise it would never have been a remote possibility for the school to stage it in the first place. So with that said, the ban could be accused of perpetuating the ignorance that is the cause of much of the racist and sectarian intolerance not only in Dudley but throughout the rest of the world.

It is scandalous that kids should be pushed into a play that is politically orientated, and this with taxpayers’money.
Imagine if it were about the Conservatives,UKIP,Liberal Democrats or Labour.
Please make sure that the teachers concerned are made to explain to the school governors and the local taxpayers.
Half the kids cannot write English better than what goes out on text messages. As for Maths etc.
Freedom of speech, yes. But not manipulation of under-age pupils.I’ll be nasty:it smacks of Stalin.And,paradoxically,Hitler.

Im still scratching my head over this, what happened to school plays. A play about the BNP and racism and homophobia in Britain. these are Kids for gods shake , What are you teaching kids in school now. I think a long hard look into the backgrounds of the teachers involved in this needs to be taken and as for the EDL been a far right wing group, please have the god given sense to look up and read for yourselves what this group is about and not belive every thing you are feed by the news, newspapers. This is what we should be teaching or kids to think for them selfs

Yes, you could start by googling “wigan mike” who is the forum moderator for the EDL’s website.

By the way, if you really are a headmaster, then I really hope your pupils don’t take after you regarding spelling and grammar!

The march in Dudley this weekend has been caused because we are so scared of making a decision based upon fact and not religion. There will no doubt be members of opposing groups in Dudley on Saturday but i can gaurantee which group of people will get the negative press!!!
