Death crash victim named

Tuesday 30th March 2010, 11:30AM BST.

A man killed in a horror car crash in Birmingham was today named locally as Kevin Burris.

Mr Burris was believed to be 29 years old and from Smethwick. Dozens of flowers and cards have been laid in tribute at the scene of the crash in Dudley Road, Ladywood, Birmingham.

The crash is now being investigated by the Independents Police Complaints Commission (IPCC), it was revealed today.

Five men were in a silver Ford Focus when it hit a lamp post and overturned at 5am on Friday. Mr Burris was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two other men in their 20s who were in the car remained in a critical condition in hospital today after suffering serious multiple injuries.

A fourth man suffered serious head and leg injuries and was taken to Selly Oak Hospital. West Midlands Police voluntarily contacted watchdog the IPCC as it was believed traffic officers briefly saw the car before the collision.

The IPCC will examine whether or not there was significant police contact in the lead-up to the tragedy.

Police are also examining possible links between the crash and an argument outside City Hospital which flared at around 12.15pm last Friday.

At the scene today, cards and flowers paid tribute to a man named as KB, Goldie or Kevin, with one reading “RIP babes ur gonna be missed but never forgotten”.

A Facebook group entitled RIP KB has also been set up.
