Witness on faith healing accused
Saturday 27th March 2010, 11:30AM GMT.
The defence of a man accused of posing as a bogus faith healer to con victims out of thousands of pounds will begin on Monday.
Niem Mohammed is facing a trial at Wolverhampton Crown Court over allegations he preyed on vulnerable people in Sandwell by telling them he could work miracles on their love lives, cure their illnesses and help them conceive children.
The final prosecution witness gave evidence to the court yesterday.
The woman from Wolverhampton, who cannot be named for legal reasons, told the court she arrived at the house of one of Mohammed’s alleged victims, a friend of hers, who she heard arguing with a man on the phone about money.
Speaking through an interpreter, she said she could hear the man on the other end of the phone, because her friend had the phone set to loudspeaker.
She said she heard her friend tell the man “you haven’t done my work, return my money,” but he swore at her and said she would not get her money back.
She heard the man threaten to “ruin her house” and “do magic,” the court was told.
Mohammed, of Altrincham Road, Wilmslow, Cheshire, denies 15 charges of fraud, blackmail, obtaining property by deception and procuring the exception of valuable security by deception.
The case continues.¨
