Inquiry on Ryan murder

Saturday 27th March 2010, 11:30AM GMT.

A support agency at the centre of an inquiry into major failings linked to the murder of a three-year-old boy will continue to work with 190 vulnerable Black Country teenagers, it was revealed today.

Wolverhampton City Council aims to keep on using the team to support teenagers moving from its care into adulthood for at least another year when their current contract is due for renewal, although work is being closely monitored.

Staff from the Shaftesbury Young People Project and Probation Service staff are both in line for criticism over their dealings with Kayley Boleyn, aged 19, and Christopher Taylor, 25, who were convicted yesterday of murdering three-year-old Ryan Lovell-Hancox at their flat in Slim Avenue, Bradley.

Each agency was monitoring one of the killers but did not exchange vital information and so were unaware of the potential danger faced by Ryan until it was too late.Boleyn and Taylor will receive life imprisonment at a later date.
