Seams like a really good invention
Thursday 25th March 2010, 7:00PM GMT.
The problem of threading a needle has infuriated even the best seamstresses but one clever woman seems to have solved the the age-old complication with a new invention.
Pam Turner came up with the ingenious idea of the Spiral Eye, a stainless steel side threading needle, after watching her own mother struggle to get cotton through the tiny hole
The innovative little pin allows people to drape a loop of thread over the needle before pulling it in, around the tongue and into the eye.
It takes seconds for even the most clumsy person to pull the cotton through the sewing pin, which costs just £3.69 for the basic needle, which Pam claims you can do with your eyes closed.
The grandmother had to completely reinvent the traditional method of needle making in order to construct the revolutionary invention.
She said: “I remember laughing as my mum struggled to thread a needle.
“Some times she would curse, ‘Why can’t someone invent a better needle? We’ve been to the moon for goodness sake.’
“Eventually she would break down and ask one of us kids to thread it for her.”

Fair play to you, Pam Turner.
Congratulations on seeing a problem and finding what looks like a good solution.
I hope it all works out well for you and that you have the business acumen yourself, or the support elsewhere to make it happen.
No doubt we’ll be doing a fair bit more sewing during the coming economic hardship.

It’s a great invention, but she’s not from round here, she’s from Minnesota? Is there a Black Country connection for this to be in the star?

Well done, I know the problem well.
Where are they on sale please?
