Cannabis factory finds at two a day

Two cannabis factories are being uncovered by police in the West Midlands every day, it was revealed today.

A total of 121 factories were discovered in January and February, figures obtained under the Freedom of Information Act show.

During the whole of last year, 556 drug farms were smashed in the region. Birm­ingham has seen the most raids, with 33 factories discovered in two months.

A total of 266 cannabis operations were unearthed by officers during 2009.

In Dudley, 11 of the enterprises have been found by police, with 72 unearthed in the whole of last year.

In Sandwell the figure is 21 in January and February this year, compared with 50 last year.

A total of 18 have been discovered in Wolverhampton in the first two months of 2010, compared with 40 in the whole of last year.
