Thousands rush to buy tickets for Banks’s gig

Friday 5th March 2010, 5:29PM GMT.

Thousands of tickets have been sold for Walsall’s open-air concert featuring UB40 – as organisers revealed rap star Tinchy Stryder could join the line-up.

Organisers of the outdoor concert at Walsall FC’s Banks’s Stadium on Bank Holiday Monday, May 31, say they are delighted with the early response to the show, despite an initial technical hitch with ticket sales.

And they say they are hopeful of tying up a deal to see chart-topping Stryder perform at a show that will also boast appearances from urban giants N-Dubz, Specials frontman Neville Staple, and Midlands Ska heroes The Beat.

Chris Silcox, from Organisers Kingswinford-based Unique Live Events, said: “It’s fair to say we’ve sold thousands of tickets in less than a week,” he said.

“We had a small technical problem with the website at first, but that’s all fixed now and we’ve seen a great response this week.

The show, called the Spring Happening, will have a capacity of 17,000 to 18,000 and is the first open-air show to be held at the stadium for 12 years.

Tickets are £60 and £55 for standing areas.
