Man fell from rail platform

Thursday 25th February 2010, 11:30AM GMT.

A man came within seconds of death after falling between two rail carriages as a train pulled into a Birmingham station.

Paramedics pulled the man to safety after he fell from the platform of Yardley Wood Station, in Highfield Close, Hall Green, just after 5.15pm yesterday.

The casualty, who was in his 50s, suffered a nasty cut to his head but was not seriously injured.

West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman Murray MacGregor said the electrics had to be suspended for 30 minutes while the rescue took place, causing delays at the station.

He said: “The patient had suffered a nasty gash to his head but this was not too serious. He was taken to Heartlands Hospital.”
