New-look bar shut following revamp
Friday 19th February 2010, 6:39PM GMT.
The former Little Civic music venue in Wolverhampton has closed down, just five months after being relaunched.
Loose Lucee’s was launched in North Street following a major revamp after the Little Civic relocated to Broad Street, where it is now The Slade Rooms.
Before opening, bosses lost a battle with the city council to keep its well-known name.
Workers at nearby businesses today said all activity there had stopped suddenly.
Giorgio Uccellini, who works at nearby Trish’s Vintage Clothes, said: “I suppose in these times, setting up a new business isn’t easy.”
Regular Emma Jepson, aged 23, of Albion Street, Wolverhampton, said: “I think being banned from keeping the name The Little Civic did a lot of damage.
“That’s such a famous name it was bound to attract people.”
Olimax UK took over the lease for the building in June then a wrangle broke out between venue bosses and Wolverhampton City Council, which re-located its own Little Civic to the former C4 in Broad Street.
Both had wanted to keep the Little Civic name.
Managing director of Olimax UK Tom Kearney was unavailable for comment.
