Man arrested after body discovered

A 24-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a man in his 30s was found dead at his home in the Wildwood area of Stafford.

Police discovered the body of a man at an address at Mapledene Close last night.

The man has not yet been formally identified.

Today the house was sealed off with police tape and forensic teams were at the scene.

A 24-year-old man from Stafford was arrested at the address on suspicion of murder and was taken to Stafford Police Station, police said today.

He was detained overnight and was being interviewed by officers today.

A post-mortem examination, being undertaken by a Home Office pathologist, is set to be carried out shortly.

Inspector Rob Pilling, from Stafford Police, said: “Our thoughts and sympathies are with the man’s family, who are being offered support by specially-trained family liaison officers.

“Incidents such as this are extremely rare and we appreciate the impact they can have on local communities.

“Officers will carry out high-visibility patrols in the area today to offer re-assurance and answer any questions residents may have.

“An inquiry into the death has been launched by detectives from our Major Investigations Department.”
