The owner of a Black Country dog kennels where three animals were destroyed during an RSPCA raid has vowed to reopen the site.

Des Goodall hit out at the animal charity, which put down three of 59 animals seized from Rose Dene Dog Rescue, in Walsall, claiming they were “unmanageable”. He said the organisation had given no warning of their stated concerns over conditions and no explanations as to why the centre had been targeted.

But he said volunteers were giving the site in Rushall, a complete makeover, with a view to reopening as soon as possible. They have been working around the clock, painting the centre in Radley Road and upgrading facilities.

“This is a purpose-built centre and we will definitely be opening again,” he said. “We’re now painting the whole place and retiling it too.”

He also said he was considering his legal options following the raid, which the RSPCA staged jointly with police.

“I have sent the RSPCA a letter to say I want all the animals back,” he said. “At the end of the day, they are just a charity. This should never have happened.”

Mr Goodall thanked the many who had come forward to speak in support of the centre, which was raided two weeks ago.

Police and RSPCA investigators swooped on the kennels and closed them down amid fears animals were being left in bad conditions.

But supporters have leapt to the defence of Rose Dene, with more than 1,600 joining an online campaign on a social networking site backing it.

The page features tributes to and pictures of the three animals that were put down, Diesel, Clarke and Stocking.

Letters in support of Rosedene have also flooded into the Express & Star.

RSPCA spokeswoman Judith Haw has said the charity could not comment while the investigation was ongoing.

The charity has not ruled out prosecutions.
