Cinderella pulls in £1m for Grand
Saturday 30th January 2010, 10:33AM GMT.
Wolverhampton’s pantomime has broken box office records to rake in £1million, it was announced today. Cinderella, starring Neighbours actor Stefan Dennis and The Krankies, has attracted more than 60,000 guests.
And as the Grand theatre show prepares to come to a close tomorrow, bosses have revealed they have already pulled in £100,000 in ticket sales for next year’s panto Aladdin.
Starring Christopher Biggins, it is expected to be another huge money-spinner for the Lichfield Street venue.
Despite some of the worst winter weather in years and the nation’s belt-tightening, bosses said they were delighted with the success of the 2009/10 show.
The success has been put down to securing 51-year-old Australian Dennis as Dandini, while The Krankies have continued to delight audiences for a third-year running.
Niki Evans, who hails from Staffordshire and played the fairy godmother, has also been a hit with the audience, despite suffering a sprained ankle during a fall on stage.
