Tony Blair was accused of being a “coward” today when he was driven into the Iraq Inquiry via a side entrance two hours before he was due to give evidence.
He avoided having to confront hundreds of anti-war protesters who gathered outside the QEII Centre in Westminster to vent their anger at the former prime minister.
Protest organisers said they were “appalled” at the way Mr Blair had “sneaked” into the inquiry.
Andrew Murray, chairman of the anti-war group, said: “This cowardly and deceitful entrance is typical of how the former prime minister sold the war to the country – behind the backs of the public.”
Lindsey German, convener of the Stop The War Coalition, said: “He doesn’t have the decency or honesty to face up to the public, military families, and Iraqis who will be here today in huge numbers to show their opposition to the war.
“He does not have the integrity to come and face the people.
“Sliding in by a back door entrance is typical of his lies, deceit and evasion.”

There are an awful lot of Iraqi’s who owe their lives to him as well. I think the war was a front and we followed Bush like lambs to the slaughter, but an evil man was also removed from power! The only problem now is the balance of power has now shifted to Iran, and thats what will eventually bite us.
Protesters like these can be ignored as they have too much to say and should be working like the rest of us. They don’t live in the here and now anyway!!

You are obviously living in cloud cuckoo land. How do any Iraqi’s owe Tony Blair their lives? Blair is partly responsible for murdering 2 million+ Iraqis, 4 million fleeing the country, turning the country upside down and you think the people of Iraq owe Blair for being bombed to death?
Saddam may have been an evil man but he never ever killed anywhere near what the invasion since 9/11 has killed.

Rubbish saddam murdred over half amillion of his own people far more than any wars that have been fought. get your fact right…2 million is little bit exagerated I think???
No real accurate figures from these wars. The people of Iraq are free from fear from saddam. Great comments from you who has probably lived in relative safety all his life and never had to suffer the tyrany of this kind of regime!!
Saddam murdered over half a million of his own people and tested weapons on them. Chemical Alley has just ben executed!! Why I wonder? I think some of it was justified to give the people of Iraq a free from fear life!!!Perhaps if he had remained and got Nuclear weapons like Iran will eventually have you would not be so forward with your comments against this war. You’d probably be a litle worried aout your safe little world being spoilt!!

St Joe you really should change your name to st joKe.
It’s only Tony Blair and St Joe who believe the Iraqi people are better off now than before the invasion.
You say Saddam killed so many of his own people and tested chemical weapons on them but what you fail to mention is who sold him the weapons and technology, you will find that was the UK and USA amongst others.
The reason we were given for the Iraq invasion was WMD’s, which turned out to be a pack of lies, so they needed to come up with another excuse.
Keep believing everything Tony Blair tells you. You are in a minority!

They did indeed supply him weapons to use against the Iranians. But nobody forced him to use them on his own people did they?? Perhaps you should have lived there under this dictator? Easy to comment when you live in your safe little world and don’t even have to worry whats going on in these extreme countries. Sounds to me like you are one of those protester kinds looking to hassle Tony Blair. People like you don’t live in the real world of dirty politics. You only see and believe what fictitious facts the papers tell you. Dig a bit deeper you may learn something about the real world.

Nobody forced us to sell Saddam weapons either did they? Don’t you find it ironic that we would sell weapons to such a tyrant in the first place?
Perhaps you should go to Iraq and see what is really going on instead of believing every word that comes out of Tony Blair the proven liars mouth.
You are trying to say the people of Iraq would welcome Tony Blair with open arms and love him for ending Saddam’s reign whilst at the same time killing 2 million of them, making 4 million flee their homes, injuring many more, destroying the country etc. when in reality anyone with any common sense at all knows this is all some crazed fantasy.
Thanks to your hero Tony Blair the world is a more dangerous place, the families of the butchered Iraqis will no doubt be blaming us and not saddam for the deaths of their loved ones. Remember shock and awe?
Wake up St Joe, this isn’t some movie!

agreed. if you wanna change government exercise your vote or better yet run for it. your chants mean nothing

I guess the Police or Special Branch or whoever watches his back probably decided which entrance he would use. It would be in nobodies interest to have a scuffle between a former PM, his bodyguards and a few shouting protestors. What good would that do? The allegations of cowardice by the protestors are either a case of sour grapes as they didn’t get to have a scene in front of the media or because of a complete lack of understanding about how security services protect public figures.

TERRY.. Prehaps you should be known as Terry gullible. I don’t agree with the reason’s they went to war, but I do agree there’s more going on behind the scenes in politics than you and I know about. Don’t spend too much time studying the figures of the news media..Most of that is crap. Saddam was a sadistic killer of anyone he wanted to. His people are glad he has gone. Did you see the victory news clips of his people toppling his statue??
I think on the whole iraq will benefit in the long term, but there’s alot of work to be done to undoe all the underhand dealings that have been going on in politics today. The people who are not happy with what went on in this war are those who lost loved ones. Didn’t here many people moan about the Falklands war, and more of our soldiers died in 3 months of that fighting than in all the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.
If you are the likes of you Terry are so concerned why don’t you live in Iraq and help them? No like Stjoe says its best you stay in your safe haven where you are free to make comments about Tony blair in relative safety. The people of Iraq never had that pleasure did they?

Brian you talk a lot of gibberish but fail to see the facts.
In the same way you call and view Saddam as a sadistic killer, the people of Iraq view the UK and USA.
You cannot even comprehend being in the position of an Iraqi. If a foreign invading army came here and killed 2 million of us because they didn’t like who we had in power, do you think we would love this foreign invading army for killing 2 million of us?
The comment about Iraq benefiting in the long term is farcical, just how long is the long term – 50 years?

Terry one thing thats been forgotton in all this mess is the reason all this started.. A small place called Kuwait. Remember them Terry? Where would this sadistic madman have stopped? How much power would he have got before he was a threat to yours and my way of life? The coalition should have done the job right in the first gulf war,but unfortunately listened to a stupid UN
Removing these kind of threats is sometimes the only way the western world can sleep safely at night. Lot’s of people do suffer..Question to you Terry..Do you want it to be you and your family that suffer? Or would you rather be a little bit selfish and clean up places like Iraq to protect yours and my future generations?
The whole middle east is volatile including Iran and will be the down fall of the western world if people like saddam had been allowed to dictate terms to Places like Kuwait. He would not have left it there do you think? Who would have been next I wonder? Hitler killed millions from invading other countries. Saddam was on his way dont you think?
