Murder inquiry as body is found
Monday 18th January 2010, 11:30AM GMT.
A murder probe has been launched after a woman’s body was discovered in Staffordshire.
Police and ambulance crews were called to St Michael’s Drive, Lichfield, at 11.30am yesterday.
A 29-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. Her identity has not yet been released.
The street was cordoned off while detectives and forensic officers conducted inquiries.
Neighbour Pascal Maun-and said: “I directed the ambulance to the property when paramedics arrived. We didn’t really understand what was going on at the time.
“The mother of the dead woman was there and was very distressed but she wasn’t allowed in.”
Neighbours say a couple living at the house are eastern European and only moved into the property a short time ago.
A man, aged 30, has been arrested and is being questioned at Tamworth police station. Officers confirmed they were not looking for any other suspects.
