Woman is killed on busy road

Friday 15th January 2010, 11:30AM GMT.

A woman was killed in Lichfield after being struck by several vehicles on a busy dual carriageway.

Police were called to the southbound lane of the A38 between Capper’s Lane and Darnford Lane after receiving reports of a woman being hit by a car at around 9.30 last night.

Ambulance crews were not called as the woman, believed to be in her 20s and local to the area, was declared dead at the scene.

Early morning traffic was delayed as the southbound carriageway of the A38 remained closed until 7.45am while police opened their preliminary investigations into the incident and cleared up the scene.

Police are currently unable to release the woman’s identity to the public but have been in contact with the woman’s family.

Staffordshire Police are now appealing for any witnesses to call 0300 123 4455.
