Ronan dream date for Kelly
Thursday 14th January 2010, 11:30AM GMT.
She may have spent years idolising pop star Ronan Keating, but little did South Staffordshire bank worker Kelly Taylor ever think she would meet her heartthrob – and certainly not live on television.
But her dream came true when that very meeting happened, thanks to the efforts of her mother. The 22-year-old, of Stafford Road, Great Wyrley, chatted to the Boyzone star on GMTV after her mother, Linda Taylor, asked the programme’s producers to organise a surprise meeting.
The Walsall Lloyds Bank assistant thought she was waiting for her mother to appear on the show as a competition winner when the pop legend surprised her with a bouquet.
There were also signed goodies for Kelly, who said: “I just burst out crying and hugged him. I just couldn’t believe it.
“I’ve been going to his solo and Boyzone concerts every year since I was nine and thought I’d never get to meet him, it was a dream come true.
“He was even nicer than I expected and he even apologised for getting married when my mum told him how upset I’d been at the time.
Kelly added: “It was the best day of my life and I owe my mum, big time.”
Kelly thought she was accompanying Mrs Taylor, aged 46, on a trip to London to appear as a shopping contest winner on Lorraine Kelly’s section of the show.
Mrs Taylor said: “I always enter competitions on-line and a few months ago I saw a notice for a Jim’ll Fix It-style feature GMTV were doing . I thought I’d ask for Kelly to meet Ronan because she’s loved him since she was nine.
“I didn’t hear anything for months and then I got a call out of the blue saying we’d been chosen, and she could meet him. I was absolutely gobsmacked, but knew I should keep it a secret.
“I told her I’d won some vouchers and had to go down to the show collect them.”
