£70m complex may come to city centre

A £70 million complex containing a hotel, casino, restaurant and more than 300 apartments could be built in the heart of Birmingham, the Express & Star can reveal today.

The huge development, which would house a car showroom, would transform the city centre landscape and could create more than 600 jobs.

The complex – also containing headquarters for the Girl Guides – would be built in Holloway Head, at the junction of Holloway Circus and the A38 Queensway.

If given the nod by council planners, construction would last around three years and create around 350 jobs in the building industry.

Architects have split the site into two multi-storey towers comprising a three-star 133-bedroom hotel, 303 apartments, underground car park, meeting hall, casino, car showroom, offices, restaurant and Girl Guides base.

It is believed the development would create a total of 647 jobs when completed.

The planning application has been submitted by Hertfordshire-based property investment company Panther Securities PLC.

If approved, the development would spring up opposite the 39-storey Radisson hotel and in between the 31-storey Cleveland and Clydesdale residential towerblocks.

The Holloway Head development is the latest hotel plan to be submitted the council.

A £20 million plan for a 14-storey hotel and neighbouring cash-and-carry warehouse on the site of the former HP Sauce factory has gone in.
