Young people asked to be housing inspectors

Young people are being invited to join a housing group’s team of tenant inspectors.

It is hoped the Walsall Housing Group scheme will give people the chance to boost their CVs and work towards formal qualifications.

The voluntary role used to be open only to those who have a tenancy agreement with WHG and pay the rent. Now the net has been widened to give anyone who lives in a WHG property and is aged 18 and over the opportunity. In-house training is given to new recruits to help them in the role.

Hycinth Austin, community engagement manager, said inspectors can be asked to visit empty homes before a new customer moves in to check the property is up to standard and test the quality of customer service. They monitor standards and customer satisfaction in services such as repairs.
