Wolverhampton apprenticeship bid set to be approved
Monday 26th September 2011, 12:32PM BST.
Plans to spend £866,000 to create jobs for young people in Wolverhampton are set to be approved.
Wolverhampton City Council’s ruling Labour cabinet will meet to establish an apprenticeship scheme for 30 young people a year despite the authority trying to save £36 million this year.
Apprenticeships offer young people the chance to do a job while gaining nationally recognised training and qualifications as well as a wage.
The proposed apprenticeships scheme would be aimed primarily at 16 to 18-year-olds and, if approved, would begin in February 2012 when 15 youngsters would be offered a one-year fixed term contract at a wage of £150 per week.
