Apprentice Dean decides to earn as he learns
Friday 4th March 2011, 10:33AM GMT.
An administrative apprenticeship at Dudley College proved just the job for Dean Hinchcliff when he decided that sixth form wasn’t for him.
“I absolutely love my apprenticeship,”says Dean, who wanted to feel like he had progressed on from school within an environment that combined hands-on practical learning with theoretical knowledge.
“It has given me the chance to have some responsibility right from the start, which has equipped me with so much confidence to succeed in my job.
“The fact that I can learn on the job, at college and earn at the same time is fantastic.
“I would recommend an apprenticeship to anyone!”
Dean is an apprentice with Dudley-based Boss Design Ltd, a manufacturer of modern, premium-quality contract furniture.
Operations manager Virginia Seaward explains: “As a local manufacturing company we recognise that apprentices are the future of our business.
“We believe apprenticeships show youngsters that manufacturing holds a range of opportunities to them and their future success.
We are keen to continue to expand the number of apprentices within our organisation as they bring a wealth of skills and attributes with them such as enthusiasm, technological skills and a keenness to learn that rubs off onto existing staff.
Apprenticeships are the key to the future of local businesses as the trainees of today are the experts of tomorrow.”
