Jobs hope prompted by 2011 census
Thursday 25th November 2010, 3:40PM GMT.
Next year’s census on March 27 will create jobs across the Midlands.
The Office for National Statistics has launched a campaign to recruit 35,000 temporary workers across England and Wales.
The roles available will include census co-ordinators, who will help to manage local teams; census collectors, who will provide help and support on the doorstep, and enumerators who will be responsible for communal establishments such as care homes, hotels and student halls.
The aim of all the positions is to make sure everyone in each area completes and returns their census questionnaire.
There will be 280 full and part-time temporary positions across Wolverhampton and Walsall, 120 in Sandwell, Dudley will get 240 jobs, and Birmingham 660, and there will be 240 opportunities in Cannock, Stafford and South Staffordshire.
Councillor Ian Jones, Sandwell Council’s jobs boss, said: “Since it first began, the census has proven to be very worthwhile planning for the future.
“I am very pleased with jobs being on offer because of this valuable work to track trends and resources now and in the future.”
Job details are available from www.censusjobs.co.uk.
