George Salter Academy in West Bromwich
George Salter Academy in West Bromwich is a mixed comprehensive school for 11 to 16 year olds.
The Academy is the third highest ranking secondary school in Sandwell, with more than 95 per cent of pupils achieving exam results A* from C grades in 2012.
The Academy, on Claypit Lane, recognises pupils as individuals and students are advised to follow curriculum programmes suited to their academic and personal abilities and needs.
The George Salter Academy curriculum is:
• Broad for all students to develop personal qualities, knowledge and a range of skills.
• Relevant to the real world, promoting practical capability, technical and vocational skills together with an introduction to economic awareness and entrepreneurialism.
• Interesting, enjoyable and pupil-centred.
Outside of the curriculum, students also have the opportunity to take part in activities that will enhance their wider learning and employability. These include Flexible Learning Days where the student's timetable is collapsed, allowing subjects to be delivered in a new and dynamic way.
A forthcoming £12 million programme of building improvements to the Academy will benefit both the students and the wider community.
George Salter Academy post-16 centre has been open since September 2006, offering a range of courses for both Level 2 (GCSE) and Level 3 (AS and A2) students, as well as courses to suit individuals who fall in the middle of these levels.
The Post-16 Consortium is made up of three sixth form centres: George Salter Academy, Bristnall Hall Technology College and Ormiston Sandwell Community Academy.
