Commercial feature – We’re all looking to save money these days, but we also don’t want to give up the things we love. For many, one sacrifice we won’t make is our annual holiday, and thanks to the availability of cheap flights online, you can still enjoy your trip abroad in all its glory.
Whether you love visiting the Costa del Sol in Spain or prefer a city break in one of Europe’s top destinations, you can ensure that your break firmly meets all of your needs without it costing you a small fortune.
The Internet has helped to make flights to far flung places around the world affordable for everyone. No longer do you have to save all of your hard-earned cash; instead, you can now head online and take your pick of great value airfares. With so many flights to choose from, which deal will you plump for?
If you’ve used up all of your holiday at work and only have free weekends in the near future, then a short European city break will fit the bill perfectly. You’d be surprised by how much you can do in a weekend – spending time visiting attractions left, right and centre and really soaking up the cultural experience. Hopefully you’ll be treated to some fine weather as well: something that’s dependent on the resort that you choose.
So, your biggest task will be choosing the destination you want to visit. Once you’ve done that, you can purchase your cheap air ticket online alongside great value accommodation. All of your holiday concerns can be realised with a couple of clicks – leaving you to plan holidays that you’ll never forget.
For a European city break destination, you can’t go far wrong with Barcelona. The city combines the cultures of Spain with those of Catalonia, and the result is a resort that’s truly unique. You might have been to Spain before, but it’s unlikely that you’ve experienced what Barcelona has to offer. If you think it will be similar to Madrid or the Costa del Sol, think again!
As a Spanish resort, Barcelona enjoys many of the things that the Mediterranean country is renowned for. The weather is pleasant most of the time, and visitors can enjoy tucking into tasty tapas, which is something that a visit to Spain wouldn’t be complete without. When you add in the stunning coastal scenery of the city, the result is a truly stunning resort which is bursting with beauty, culture and heritage.
Many holidaymakers will want to check out the Nou Camp, home of FC Barcelona, and one of the greatest football stadiums in the world. The spine-tingling atmosphere during a match is something that has to be experienced to be believed, while you’ll be hard-pressed to find a better quality of football anywhere in Europe.
Shopping on the busy Las Ramblas may be more to other visitors’ tastes. There you can get your hands on some bargains in the boutiques and also enjoy the street entertainment that is on show throughout the day. At night, this is the place to go to enjoy the Spanish cuisine before heading to the beach for a relaxing and tranquil stroll.
Barcelona is home to its fair share of other tourist attractions, as well. The Sagrada Familia is one that stands out. This unfinished church is a piece of architectural beauty and is the work of Gaudi. If art is one of your passions, then a visit to the Pablo Picasso Museum is also a must, and will be the first stop for many culture vultures.
The Spanish city is a great location for a weekend break, but if you’ve already experienced what Barcelona has to offer, then you won’t be short of choice for other resorts. Paris is many people’s first choice when it comes to weekends away in Europe, especially if romance is on the cards; the French city has built up its reputation as a great holiday destination for a reason.
You’ll be able to get your hands on airline tickets even if you’re booking at the last-minute, and a stay in a luxurious hotel can also be arranged. You might not want to spend much time in your hotel room, because of the vast number of attractions that Paris offers. It means that you’ll need to spend most of your break out of doors to simply see everything that the city has to offer.
Paris is renowned for its architecture, and famous monuments such as the Eiffel Tower and the Arc de Triomphe have become symbols of the city, and if you want to experience fantastic views of the city, then you’ll need to head to the top of the Eiffel Tower itself.
Once you’re back on the ground, you can experience some Parisian cultural activities by watching a performance at the Moulin Rouge. You might, though, prefer to enjoy some peace and quiet, for which a riverside walk along the Seine is perfect. Just make sure you have filled your stomach beforehand, with some high-end cuisine, which will give you an idea as to why France is still at the heart of modern cooking.
Whether you visit Barcelona, Paris or another European city destination, make sure you buy yourself a souvenir to remember the holiday alongside the hundreds of photos you’ll have taken. This might come in the form of a Barcelona football shirt or a mini Eiffel Tower, though some street art would also fit the bill perfectly.
Even if you can’t fit in everything you wanted to do in a weekend, with the cheap airfares available, you’ll be able to visit again in the near future – and can even make your next flight booking as soon as you get home!
