A world record-breaking auto firm boss aims to reclaim the title of the world’s fastest street legal car this weekend.

Andy Frost, of Penn Autos, Springhill Lane, Wolverhampton, has finished work on Red Victor 3, a modified racing car capable of doing 0-240mph in just 6.5 seconds.

The 49-year-old, who lives in Whitmore Reans, aims to break the record for the world’s fastest street legal car — currently 0-215mph in 6.678 seconds on a quarter-mile track — with his Red Victor 1 racing team.

He held the record in 2006 with a previous version of his current car, called Red Victor 2. Red Victor 3, with an 8.8-litre 3,000 horse-power engine, will try to smash the record at the Main Event drag racing festival at Santa Pod Raceway, Northamptonshire, which runs from Friday until Monday. The motor has better acceleration than a Formula One car.

Andy said: “”I really want to get this title for Wolverhampton and the heritage of Wolverhampton. We are proud to be from Wolverhampton and to be setting record like they did at Sunbeam.”

Wolverhampton City Council provided £5,000 for each of his two businesses through the Wolverhampton Business Grants Suite scheme.

It is hoped to follow the example of the Wolverhampton-built Sunbeam 1000HP which achieved the world land speed record of 203mph in 1927.
