New Mercedes car deal is a boost for jobs
Thursday 21st April 2011, 11:29AM BST.
A Halesowen engineering firm is set for a jobs boost after securing a seven-year contract worth £5 million to make parts for the forthcoming Mercedes-Benz S-Class luxury car.
ETMA Engineering hopes to recruit up to 20 workers, with the possibility of more if continues to land further orders.
ETMA, part of the GSA Group, was selected from engineering companies across Europe for the lucrative contract with global automotive designer and manufacturer Faurecia.
The Victoria Road firm will be making five parts for a new-style armrest in Mercedes’ flagship car.
ETMA is currently tooling up for production and will be looking to recruit staff when work on the contract starts towards the end of next year.
GSA Group’s business manager Rajesh Bedi said: “This is great news for both ETMA Engineering as well as for the wider West Midlands region.
“In these uncertain times this comes as reassuring news that there are manufacturing opportunities opening up; it’s about looking both locally as well as beyond to find them.
“As a company we kept our heads down and our efforts and standards high when times were low, and that is exactly what led to us converting this latest milestone contract.”
Like many firms, ETMA suffered during the recession and staffing levels have fallen to around 30.
