Used car sales rising fast in West Midlands
Wednesday 22nd September 2010, 10:00AM BST.
Used car sales are rising faster in the West Midlands than in any other region.
The latest used car sales statistics from information services company Experian show a rise of 1.6 per cent for the second quarter of 2010, compared to the same period in 2009.
This was the largest increase of all the regions.
Leading the way was the supermini segment, which includes cars such as the Ford Fiesta and Vauxhall Corsa, with a 4.8 per cent rise.
The top selling model of the region for the quarter was the Ford Fiesta.
The only two segments to see a drop in sales were the sports and upper medium segments, including cars such as the Mazda MX5 and the Audi TT and the BMW 3 Series and Ford Mondeo respectively.
Joe Myers, director of commercial for Experian Credit Services, said: “After hitting a ten-year low in Q4 2009, each
quarter the UK has seen sales rise and this is the second consecutive quarter to see an improvement.”
He added: “The rise in sales of cars in the mini segment and also hybrid and electric models goes to show more fuel efficient cars are increasing in popularity.”
