Range Rover Evoque to debut in Paris
Wednesday 22nd September 2010, 4:54PM BST.
The all-new Range Rover Evoque will make its eagerly awaited global debut at the Paris Motor Show next week.
The Evoque is the finished version of the LRX concept car, known as the baby Land Rover, because of its compact size.
The boldly styled Evoque, which will start at about £30,000 on the road, is an important car for the West Midlands firm.
Not only will the car bring a new type of customer to the brand, which built its reputation on rugged 4×4 off-roaders, but it will also be far greener than some of the Solihull-produced gas guzzlers of the past.
The Evoque will be the lightest and smallest Land Rover yet. Land Rover says carbon dioxide emissions will be slashed to 130g/km, while the car will also be capable of an excellent 58mpg on the combined cycle.
The Evoque is being sold as a Range Rover rather than a Land Rover, which means that it will deliver premium levels of craftsmanship, luxury and performance as well as the firm’s renowned all-terrain capability — in a more compact package.
The cabin will be lavishly appointed with premium-quality materials and an elegance befitting of a Range Rover interior.
Customers will be able to specify soft, premium leather and beautifully tailored, twin-needle stitching providing a luxurious finish to almost every surface of the instrument panel, doors and seats.
The car will come with a lower driving position than the average Range Rover to offer a more “sporting” feel.
Headroom will be generous compared with traditional sporting saloons, despite the low-profile coupé roofline. The Evoque will be available with three design themes – Pure, Prestigeand Dynamic.
The Evoque, which will be revealed on September 30, will be sold in 160 countries. Production will take place at Halewood on Merseyside and first deliveries are expected in summer 2011.
