Snow pushes used 4×4 prices to record levels

Land Rover was not the only firm to benefit from a spike in demand for 4x4s during the cold snap.
Average values for used off-roaders reached record levels at British Car Auctions last month.
Prices for 4x4s have been rising throughout the winter but peaked at just under £13,000 in January – a rise of over five per cent compared with December’s figures.
Values have now nearly doubled over the past 18 months. BCA communications director Tony Gannon said:
“Nothing makes fourwheel drive more attractive than a dusting of snow around the UK and the severe weather we have had in recent weeks will have convinced many drivers that they now need a 4×4.
“ The turnaround in the 4×4 market has been exceptional. Of all the car sectors affected by the economic downturn, few fell harder or faster than the 4×4/Sports Utility sector and few have recovered as well in the intervening months.”
