Hundreds of thousands of people already volunteer with environmental charity BTCV, including many in the Black Country region. The charity has recently honoured some of its most committed volunteers and next month, celebrity gardener Charlie Dimmock will present its green heroes with their awards.

BTCV conservation holidays are all about improving the environment and making a positive contribution to people and places visited. They offer an experience of a lifetime where volunteers get ity to meet people they wouldn’t normally meet and do things they didn’t think they could do.

Between now and October 19, Honda is donating £5 to BTCV for every test drive of the new Insight hybrid car. Available at all participating Honda dealerships across the UK and Northern Ireland, this fundraising initiative is part of the company’s ‘Everyone Wants To Be Good’ campaign.

One of the UK’s leading volunteering websites has reported a huge increase in the amount of people wanting to contribute last year since the previous year. YouthNet, home of the website doit.org.uk, reported a massive rise of 115 per cent in the number of people applying to volunteer in 2008 compared to 2007.
