Reader recommends – Italian restaurants
Wednesday 15th June 2011, 1:43PM BST.
Every week, we’ll be looking for your recommendations of the best places to eat, drink and enjoy yourselves across the Black Country.
This week, we asked our Twitter and Facebook followers to name the best Italian restaurants in the region. Here are the destinations that they chose:
Portobello, Aldridge
Walsall’s award-winning Italian restaurant, Portobello, was a popular choice amongst our readers.
Now in its 13th year, the eatery, located on Aldridge High Street was praised for its good, honest food, attentive staff and general ambience.
On Twitter, Ed Dawes recommended the fillet steak with pepper sauce and said he’d never had a bad meal there.
Caffe Paradiso, Wombourne
This Med-Italian restaurant on Wombourne High Street was recommended for its authenticity – Paradiso is run by a friendly Italian family.
Simon Parry told us on Twitter that it had “Fantastic food and buzzing atmosphere in both – just like being in Italy!”
Don Salvo, Wolverhampton
Taking influence from Sicilian and Roman dishes, Don Salvo brings a little piece of Italy to the heart of Wolverhampton.
Charlotte Gibbons praised its fantastic choice of menu and service on her Twitter feed and Richard Dodd agreed that the food and customer service is amazing, saying it is one of the best.

Cafe Casita, Upper Gornal
This Italian describes itself as one of the Black Country’s best kept secrets, but it may have been outed now as several of our readers recommended it as their favourite destination.
On Twitter, Steve Hermon praised its “fantastic steaks and good service”, while Sarah Evans simply described it as fabulous.

Bella restaurant, Wolverhampton
An Express & Star award winner back in 2007 for posh nosh, Bella offers fine Italian dining and an a la carte menu.
Dave Wynn praised its “great food and great service by a family run business” while Steve Hermon also recommended Bella, describing it as a nice small restaurant with great pasta.

Da Vinci’s in Ironbridge. Bit of a trip but excellent Italian rustic cooking. You need to book in advance particulary at weekends.

Hey – you missed my recommendations! Bellagio in West Bromwich serves wonderful authentic Italian food, as does Di Napolis in Oldbury. We’ve immensely enjoyed the service and the food in both restaurants.

We had so many recommendations that, unfortunately, we couldn’t use them all so we chose the ones that had received two or more nominations. Thanks for adding yours to the comments here though and I’ll add them to my own personal list of places to try!

I had the misfortune of going to Don Salvo’s one Sunday night last September. They didn’t have the starter we wanted. Then after ordering one or two things, finally admitted they had “no meat”.
They then served the pizza and pasta with the vegetable side orders that we’d requested before we knew there was “no meat”.
What right-minded Italian would serve someone a bowl of pasta with potatoes?!
Not impressed.

Pinocchio’s in Edgbaston always hits the spot. Great service, great food and wallet friendly!
