What to Wear on the First Date

Men and women worry about what to wear on a first date, but with a few simple tips you don’t need to worry too much. Follow these great tips for dating success.

So you have conversed over email think you have a lot in common, and the photo looks promising, so the only thing left to do is meet in person for that all important FIRST DATE.

Many people playing the dating game will be used to preparing for the first date, but for others, first date nerves still surface.  So to take the pressure off the first date, to give the right impression, and to help your personality shine through, make sure you know what you are going to wear.

If you are a man then this is slightly easier, but do not relax too much as you can still get it wrong.

The best advice for male singletons is to go for a clean set of clothes, without any holes or stains! Showing a shirt the iron can be a good idea, too. The scruffy look may be on trend, but sometimes it can give the impression that you have not made any effort at all and can’t be bothered about the date.  So a nice ironed shirt over a pair of jeans, and jeans that sit in the right place, not half way down your bum, and not strapped up by your nipples (only Simon Cowell can get away with that one, possibly because he’s a millionaire), will do the trick nicely.

If you have an exuberant personality that you want to shine through then go for a bit of colour in the shirt, but do not go overboard.  If you like to put gel in your hair then keep this to a minimum and lastly, a splash of aftershave is always recommended.

For the ladies out there who are giving online dating a go, try and wear something that you would usually wear, and do not try and fit into something you think is what someone else would like.

A relationship will work and you will be happy in it, if you are yourself and your partner loves you for who you are, so do this from the start.  Dating can be tough, but let your first date nerves be excited nerves.

Give yourself enough time to get ready, and try and have an outfit prepared so if your hair does not look quite right and you want to start again, you will not have to worry about the outfit too.

On the other hand, if dating scares you, you do not want to give yourself too much time to get ready, so keep yourself occupied, and maybe even see if a friend wants to come round for a coffee or drink beforehand to help you quell your nerves.

Whether it is the first date with someone you met via online dating, or the first date in any dating game, the best advice to calm those pre-date nerves, is to try and relax and be yourself.
