Eccentric Brazilian-born singer Wagner Carrilho was the surprise star of 2010′s X Factor. He lives in Dudley and is starring in the TV show’s live tour. He tells the Express & Star how he’d spend a perfect weekend.

It’s Friday afternoon. What’s on your mind?

The Psalm 23 from The Bible. Its deep thoughts in prayer make me feel like an unworried child.

Who normally has the pleasure of your company at the weekend?

I have gigs every weekend in venues that can have over 1,000 people inside and so the pleasure is mutual – people are wonderful and we all love each other really.  Not many of us would like to live alone in a desert island.

How do you prepare for a big night out?

Exercising, then having a shave and a shower.

Whats’ your favourite party outfit?

I don’t have a favourite one as I dress up according to the weather . . .

Leather is good when it’s windy, hats are good umbrellas for the head when it’s raining, some beautiful boots are good when it’s cold but shoes are better to wear when the summer comes.

You’ve just arrived at the bar. What’s your first drink?

Lager when I’m thirsty, whisky when I’m happy (or cold), and wine when I feel like having a delicious drink.

What is your favourite nightspot and why?

Anywhere I can look at the sea, the moon and a starry sky because I love to see all three together.

What tune always gets you to the dance floor?

Any of The Rolling Stones’ rock songs.

It’s a sunny Saturday. What are you up to?

I’d love to go surfing on warm waves in the North east of Brazil.

What’s your most memorable weekend ever and why?

The weekends during the X Factor because they were fantastic parties – it was comparable to being at the Carnival in Rio de Janeiro in Brazil.

What’s the perfect recipe for a night in?

Listening to good music and enjoying a tasteful red wine.

Favourite DVD and what would you eat while watching it?

I only watch a movie if it is good enough to keep mind on it and so I can’t eat – I must keep my eyes looking at what’s going on.

Sunday breakfast – full English or continental?

Just coffee for me. I enjoy fasting in the morning so I can go jogging and will eat only at lunch time.

Sunday lunch – home-cooked or down the pub?

A lot of the time I have Sunday lunch in friends’ homes. Very rarely would it be in a pub.

Where and how do you like to relax?

At home or on the beach, lying down and just thinking.

You’ve got a whole weekend off and a wad of money in your back pocket – which city or country would you head to?

I’d head for Joao Pessoa in Brazil.

* Wagner is currently starring in the X Factor Live tour which comes to Birmingham’s LG Arena tomorrow and Sunday.
