Anyone who has ever found rodents in the home will know that rat control is needed as quickly as possible. Thankfully, the Internet is home to a wealth of useful information these days, so the best advice is extremely close to hand. A minute or two on the web is all that’s needed to access guidance, as well as information on a range of highly efficient products.
Perhaps the first thing to realise, and this often comes as a comfort to the homeowner, is that the presence of rodents doesn’t necessarily mean the property is unclean. Rats and mice can find food and water sources in the unlikeliest of places, and that can include inside kitchen cupboards, even when the doors are closed.
One of the most effective products is a glue board. Ideally for use when there is a large infestation, they are incredibly sticky, trapping rats and mice immediately. Placing them around the home needs to be done very carefully, of course, because they can adhere themselves to people and pets as well.
Perhaps one of the more humane rat control products on the market is a unit that emits ultrasonic waves. They are inaudible to the human ear, but they are particularly unpleasant to rodents. They can be placed anywhere in the home, and have a wide reach, ensuring they can be heard anywhere in the property.
Many homeowners feel happier if the rats and mice are actually killed, although they understandably find the thought of handling the dead creatures particularly unpleasant. An electronic unit can be bought which eliminates the rodent immediately, so the box can be simply lifted and emptied without the need to touch the animal.
Other people prefer to remove the rats without actually killing them, and there are a range of traps on the market which will close immediately without damaging the creatures. Once they’ve stepped inside, homeowners simply have to take the unit to another area, such as a local common or the banks of a river, to release them humanely.
The traditional, old-fashioned trap is still a popular rat control item. It snaps shut as soon as a rodent steps on it, securing it immediately. These units work very well, but it must be borne in mind that great care is taken when placing them around the house. A curious child or pet can easily set one off, which can be dangerous and extremely upsetting, of course.
