Mineral makeup is the new trend – any eco-aware consumer shouldnt be without it

Mineral makeup is taking the cosmetics world by storm and becoming the favourite of natural product lovers worldwide.

Mineral makeup makes your cosmetics work harder for you. While you’re working at the office or picking up the kids from school its nice to know that you’re feeding your skin rather than leaving it at the mercy of the elements and the chemicals in your regular makeup.

If you’re concerned about lead in lipsticks and the parabens preservatives that may be found in your favourite high street beauty buys, mineral makeup offers a no-worry solution that will leave you with peace of mind. After all, your skin is natural so shouldn’t that apply to your makeup too?

Many of us choose organic, pesticide-free and free-range products when were eating so why not apply this to what we put on our skin as well? And if, for example, you use organic skin care goods and bath toiletry brands which don’t contain sodium laureth sulphate, it follows that the same care should be given to what you put on your face.

To make mineral-based cosmetics, natural, chemical-free ingredients are combined with mineral-based technology to create products free from added chemicals, dyes and fillers. Many also have anti-bacterial properties to improve the skin. So why not give your old makeup regime a rest and try something different?

If you’re new to greener makeup brands, its best to start small. Once you’ve tried a mineral foundation or lipstick you might be encouraged to swap more of your regular cosmetics. Its also good to know that you’re helping the environment at the same time rather than encouraging the increased production of synthetic chemical formulations.

Using mineral makeup gives you a host of new products to choose from, many in vibrant shades. When it comes to eye pencils and eye liner, most of the regular shades are available and may even be an improvement on your current favourites. They also tend to feel lighter on the skin than traditional makeup brands.

It certainly makes sense to think about using lip glosses and colours enhanced with natural products such as vitamin E and jojoba rather than with a range of man-made chemical formulations – you may well be eating what you put on your lips throughout the day! After all, most glosses come in fruit flavours so its tempting to lick them off.

Of course, there’s also the kudos of leading a trend. When friends admire your new look you can tell them that you’re wearing mineral makeup, and they may want to follow suit. And its always good to pass on information that will keep your nearest and dearest healthy and glossy.

Currently, high street stores are catching on to the mineral makeup trend, so make sure you stay ahead of the game and try out some of the products available online or perhaps book a makeup lesson for one of the new mineral ranges in your local department store.

You’ll be glad you did, and your friends and family may end up thanking you too!
