Workers stunned by firm’s collapse
Tuesday 5th January 2010, 8:05PM GMT.
A plastics company in Staffordshire is believed to have gone into administration, with the loss of 35 jobs.
Hytec Plastic Mouldings, at Burntwood Business Park, is understood to have collapsed before Christmas, with all staff made redundant.
Distraught workers had been expecting to return to work this week after a fortnight’s Christmas shutdown. No-one could be contacted at Hytec today.
It is believed the 35 staff were called into a meeting with administrators where they were given the news and told to leave.
Some staff at the company are thought to have worked there for over 20 years.
Workers on a monthly contract were told they would receive a month’s pay.
But some weekly employees received just one week’s pay, seven days before Christmas, where many had expected three weeks’ pay.
The mother of one of those employees made redundant said the workers knew nothing about the company’s problems and were shocked at the closure.
