Hefenbrock out to silence doubters

Christian HefenbrockWolves speedway asset Christian Hefenbrock is out to silence the doubters this season.

The German goes on loan to Coventry for 2010 and, on four points exactly, may well be the lowest averaged rider in the tricky number two team slot.

But the 24-year-old, guilty in the past of spreading himself a little too thinly with extensive European commitments, reckons he’s got the balance right this year after giving Britain a miss last season.

He said: “In 2009 I was away from British speedway so there were not enough meetings. It wasn’t good at all. But 2006 was a little bit too much. I think 80 to 90 meetings a season is perfect. I’m contracted to do that many this year.

“It will be a big challenge to start at number two – normally nobody likes number two, but it’s a good number to get some bonus points.

“I’m not scared about it. I will do my best and hope that they will be happy.”

Hefenbrock, who had spells with Wolves in 2006 and 2008, has enjoyed some success at Coventry’s Brandon circuit in the past and it’s a track that should suit his style.

The former German champion is known for his meticulous pre-season prep-aration and confirmed his winter is going to schedule.

He said: “At the end of the season I strip my bikes and do all the technical things. Now I’ve finished all that and I’m starting on the fitness.”
